1. Situation.
a. Enemy Forces. See Current ISUMS
b. Friendly Forces.
1. 4th Marines (-)(rein) continues defense of Chu Lai area.
2. 3rd Bn, 12th Marines (rein). Provides light Artillery Battery in direct support with priority of fires to Company B from 231500H to 241600H. Medium and heavy artillery as required.
3. 1st MAW. Provides Air Support as required.
4. 3rd Motor Transport Bn. Provides detachment in direct support to conduct motorized march from vicinity (BT 431108) at approximately 241600H.
c. Attachments and Detachments. None.
d. Assumptions.
1. That support requirements as planned will be provided.
2. Mission. Continue mission assigned by reference (b). Conduct patrolling daily within TAOR west of Grid Line 46.
3. Execution.
a. Concept of Operations. Company B (-)(rein) heli-lifts into LZ (BT 445045) and conducts combat patrol along axis of advance to harbor sites. Established platoon and/or squad ambushes. Continues patrol arriving (BT 431108) for return by truck-Ontos convoy to assigned MLR positions.
b. Company A (rein).
1. One (1) Platoon OpCon Company C at 231300H to assist in defense of MLR.
2. Conduct patrols as assigned.
c. Company B (-)(rein).
1. Conduct Company (-)(rein) extended combat patrol with night ambushes to seek and destroy enemy along assigned axis of advance. (See Annex A, Operation Overlay).
2. Attach FAC Team and one (1) Interpreter.
3. Harbor vicinity (BT 435060) and establish ambushes until 240300H.
4. Coordinating instructions.
a. Tentative H-hour 231500H. Alternate to be designated. Ten (10) minute artillery prep on LZ.
b. Preplan supporting fires along designated axis of advance and harbor site.
c. Preplan and schedule resupply.
d. Pickup at (BT 431108) approximately 241600H.
e. Submit Sit Reports every 30 minutes and /or as incidents occur.
f. Engineer Squad direct support. On call.
g. Flame Section direct support. On call.
h. Short Title: Operation JOE.
i. Operation Overlay.
d. Company C (rein).
1. Maintain outposts at An Tan Bridge (BT 498067) and Hill 69 (BT 468068).
2. Assume Company B sector MLR, night of 23 July.
3. Provide one (1) Platoon heli-lift fast Reaction Force in support of Company B on 23 July. Initially one (1) hour alert.
e. Company D (rein).
1. One (1) Platoon OpCon Company C at 231300H to assist in defense of MLR.
2. Conduct assigned patrols.
f. H&S Company.
1. Flame Section on call in support of Company B on 23 and 24 July. Initially one (1) hour alert.
2. Battalion Scouts provide security for Waterborne Patrol.
g. Supporting Units.
1. 1st Plat, Co. B, 3rd AT Bn. Provide section to escort truck convoy for pickup and return of Company B.
2. 1st Plat, Co. A, 1st AmTrac Bn. Conduct assigned Waterborne Patrol. Provide two (2) LVT’s, relieve on station at 232400H.
3. Company C, 3rd MT Bn. Provide transportation for pickup and return of Company B.
4. 1st Plat, Co. B, 3rd Engr Bn. Provide one (1) Squad on call at 1st Bn CP commencing 231400H through 241600H in support of Company B.
4. Administration and Logistics. Company B submit equipment and resupply request to S-4 by 221200H.
5. Command and Communications/Electronics. Company B report location of harbor site/OP when established.
