1.        Situation.

a.                 Enemy Forces.  See current ISUMS.

b.                 Friendly Forces.

1.                  4th Marines (-)(rein) continued defense of Chu Lai area.

2.                  3rd Bn., 12th Marines.  Provides light artillery battery in direct support with priority of fires to Company A from 270700H to 281600H.  Medium and heavy artillery as required.

3.                  1st MAW.  Provides air support as required.

c.                  Attachments and Detachments.  None.

d.                 Assumptions.

1.                  That support requirements as planned will be provided.

2.         Mission.  Continue mission assigned in reference (b).  Conduct patrolling daily within TAOR west of Grid Line 46 and south of Highway 1.

3.         Execution.

a.                 Concept of Operations.  Company A (-)(rein) heli-lifts into LZ (BT 452049) and conducts combat patrol along axis of advance.  Establishes harbor site and platoon/squad ambushes.  Continues patrol arriving (BT 462091) for return by LVT to assigned MLR positions.

b.                 Company A (rein).

1.                  Conduct company (-)(rein) extended combat patrol with night ambushes to seek and destroy enemy along assigned axis of advance. 

2.                  Attach FAC team and one (1) interpreter.

3.                  Harbor vicinity (BT 435075) and establish ambushes, 271900H to 280400H.

4.                  Coordinating instructions.

a.                  Tentative H-hour 270700H.  Alternate to be designated.  Fifteen (15) minute artillery prep on LZ.

b.                  Preplan supporting fires along designated axis of advance and harbor site.

c.                  Preplan and schedule resupply.

d.                  Pickup at (BT 462091) approximately 281630H.

e.                  Submit sit reports every 30 minutes and/or as incidents occur.

f.                    Engineer squad direct support.  On call.

g.                  Short Title: Operation RED.

h.                  Remaining platoon OpCon Company C 270700H for defense MLR.

1.                  Conduct assigned patrol.

i.                    Remaining platoon immediate reserve force in support of operation on 27 and 28 July.  Initially one (1) hour alert.

c.                  Company B (rein)

1.                  Conduct assigned patrols

2.                  Provide security for LVT’s for pickup of Company A.

d.                 Company C (rein)

1.                  Maintain outposts at An Tan Bridge (BT 498067) and Hill 69 (BT 468068).

2.                  Assume Company A sector MLR, night of 27 July.

e.                 Company D (rein)

1.                  Assume Company C sector of MLR night of 27 July.

2.                  Conduct assigned patrols.

f.                    Supporting Units.

1.                  1st Plat, Co. A, 1st AmTrac Bn.

(a)            Provide transportation for pickup and return of Company A.

(b)            Conduct assigned waterborne patrol.

2.                  1st Plat, Co. B. 3rd Engr Bn.  Provide one (1) squad on call at 1st Bn CP on 27 and 28 July in support of Company A.

4.         Administration and Logistics.  Company A submit equipment and resupply request to S-2 by 260900H.

5.         Command and Communications/Electronics.  Company A report location of harbor site/CP when established.
