Subj:            Weekly Operations Summary

Ref:             (a)            Telecom with Regimental S-3 at 22100H July 1965

 

1.         111700H, 1st Platoon, Company D, was relieved at Junk Fleet Headquarters (BT 502128) by an ARVN company from 1st Battalion, 6th ARVN Regiment.

2.         121030H.  Company C (-), on combat patrol in vicinity of Hill 69 (BT 468068), was taken under fire at stream crossing (BT 459051).  As the point platoon commenced crossing bridge at this point, they were taken under fire from the right (BT 457053) and left (BT 456050) flanks by an estimated VC squad.  Fire was mixed M1 and M2 carbine.  One man was hit in the foot as he crossed the bridge.  The company gained fire superiority and moved one platoon to the high ground at (BT 450055), as the other platoon, with PF squad, patrolled through Ky Sanh (1) Hamlet (BT 457053) at 121100H.  a large cache of rice, approximately 1,000 lbs. was discovered and brought back to the regiment by helicopter.  Four VCS were apprehended.

3.        140010H.  ARVN Company at junk fleet headquarters (BT 502128) reported they were under attack by estimated two VC companies and requested artillery.  USMC Arty FO at the headquarters quickly called in artillery. Surveillance units sent out after first light found ten wounded civilians and no VC.

4.         170930H.  Company D (rein), on combat patrol (Operation FLUSH) towards Hill 22 (BT 426089), encountered booby trap.  One man tripped a booby trap on small hill (BT 433088) and was seriously injured.  Man nearby received minor shrapnel wounds.  Booby trap was Mark-7 hand grenade attached to trip wire.

5.         180730H.  Company D (rein), continuing on combat patrol (Operation FLUSH), moved out in a westerly direction from saddle (BT 434079) towards objective at (BT 417084).  At 180730H small arms fire was received vicinity (BT 422082), resulting in one WIA.  At 0855H more sniper fire was received from (BT 416082).  No casualties.
