Subj: Situation Report (121100H to 131100H)
1. General Summary of Significant Events. The Bn continued consolidation and preparation of permanent defensive positions. Co A helo lifted the 1st and 3d platoons from old Bn CP location, to present defensive positions in newly assigned area. Forty percent of this command attended USO show at 121300H.
2. Operational Summary.
a. The Bn had one friendly minor casualty due to accidentally tripping booby trapped grenade.
b. No weapons captured.
c. No enemy material destroyed or captured.
d. Detailed Summary.
1. Co A, helo lifted 1st and 3d Platoons from old CP location (GC 541021) to newly assigned area which extends from GC 520116 SSE to Co CP location GC 528110 then south to GC 526100. The 2d plat trucked new location. Preparing defensive positions.
2. Co B, continued consolidating and improving defensive positions. Plat positions extend in a south SW direction from GC 527100 to company COP location at GC 527090 then bend sharply to an east by southeast direction to GC 529080 where they tie in with Co C.
3. Co C, remains the same. Lines run from GC 529080 south on the area authorized for use line to GC 527076 where they tie with unit from 3/3 at end of airstrip. The 3d plat (-) defends the bridge and mans the roadblock at GC 497066 with two units and Plat CP. One squad (rein) outposts Hill 69 GC 468068 in conjunction with one company of ARVN. No enemy contact or incidents during period.
4. Co D, continued to prepare positions to defend area between GC 524074 and GC 510056. Mans checkpoint at edge of purchased land and conducts daily sweep of peanut harvesters within purchased land area.
5. 1st Plat, B Recon CP located 533085. The plat continues to recon trails in assigned area.
6. 1st Plat, Co B, 3d AT Bn in direct support.
7. Engineers presently are excavating Bn CP area for billeting, ect.
8. Artillery engaged a target at GC 492105, a gathering site of VC at 122015H and fired periodically until 122200H. 81mm mortar plat engaged a target at GC 497099 with 4 guns at 122015H. Three volleys were fired with a secondary explosion observed, possibly fuel ignition. A fire continued for approximately 30 minutes. 3 additional volleys were fired prior to 122200H. No illumination rounds were expended.
