Subj: Situation Report (131100H to 141100H)
1. General Summary of Significant Events.
a. Companies A and B landed by helo on Ky Xuan Island, to conduct search and clear operations. No enemy contact to this time, in process of screening approximately 100 civilians. Apprehended 4 VCS through interrogation.
b. Company D had a grenade accident aboard a M-35 6x6 truck. Suffered 21 casualties.
2. Operational Summary.
a. The Bn had 21 casualties, 2 dead, 1 critical, 1 serious, 1 fair, 1 compound fracture (evac to DaNang) and 16 in good condition. This information received 132300H. Investigation of incident being conducted at the present time.
b. No weapons captured.
c. No material destroyed.
d. Detailed Summary.
1. Co A, location and lines the same. Continued consolidation of defensive positions and preparing for Operation MR. KLEEN on Ky Xuan Island. At 140750H Co A (rein) with squad of engineers, FAC team, interpreters and PF platoon, landed at LZ Dove (486085) and LZ Condor (477088), conducted sweep in conjunction with Company B in assigned sector. Present position plats on line east and west along Phase Line GINGER.
2. Co B, location and positions same. Continued improving defensive positions and preparing for operation MR. KLEEN on Ky Xuan Island. Co B (rein) with squad of engineer, plat of PF and interpreter team landed by helo in LZ quail (496082) and LZ Kiwi (508092) at 140805H and screened approximately 100 civilians in that area. Presently are on line form 493089, 510091 along Phase Line GINGER.
3. Co C, position remain the same. 3d Plat (-) defends bridge and mans roadblock at 497066. From this position one squad teamed with 2 squads of PF established blocking position in vicinity GC 483076 at 140700H in conjunction with Operation MA. KLEEN. Other squad of 3d Plat outposts Hill 69 (468068). No enemy contact during period.
4. Co D, continued consolidation of defensive positions which remain the same. Man checkpoint at edge of purchased land GC 520056 and conducts check of all harvesters in that area.
5. Recon Plat continues recon of trails, village surveillance and terrain studies.
6. Engineers continued excavating CP area.
3 Plans. Continue to heavily fortify defensive positions by constructing bunkers with overhead for protection against VT/artillery fire, erecting tactical wire and generally improving assigned defensive positions. Priority of materials and work to combat outposts.
