1. General Summary of Significant Events. Reports from the Ly Tin District Headquarters of a high probability of VC attack resulted in the US Army advisors and Marine Liaison withdrawing to 2d Bn, 4th Marines CP shortly after dark on 20 June. With only one Plat (rein) from Co C defending the bridge GC 498067 a reinforcing force comprised of a Heavy Section of Ontos, Light Section of Amtracs and a reinforced Plat Co C was assembled vicinity GC 516053 and remained in alert status until first light 21 June. Co A outpost GC 534113, had sniper probe at 202130H, one Marine wounded in left leg.
2. Operational Summary.
a. One WIA. (Slight leg wound).
b. No weapons captured.
c. No material destroyed.
d. Detailed Summary.
1. Co A, defensive positions remain the same. Fire team size outpost GC 534113 had contact 202200H by 2 to 3 VCS. One Marine wounded. Co A conducted one squad size recon patrol. TOD: 210400H, TOR: 210800H, Route: 522105-520114-517112-518101-523104. Negative contact.
2. Co B, locations remain the same. Continued consolidating defensive positions along the FEBA. One fire team (rein) security/recon patrol. TOD: 210700H, TOR: 210845H, Route: 521095-523094-526095-528098-523097. Negative contact. One squad (rein) security/recon patrol. TOD: 210700H, TOR: 210820H, Route: 525091-525094-522093-523088-525089. Negative contact.
3. Co C, continues to maintain roadblock at bridge GC 498067 with one Plat. Plat located at the Co Cp GC 532084. Reinforced Plat (Reserve/Fast reaction force) was alerted at 202100H, assembled at vicinity 516053 and secured at first light.
4. Co D, defensive positions along the purchased land boundary remain the same. Squad size security/patrol, TOD: 201100H, no radio contact, has not returned.
5. Recon team with Plat of PF’s established ambush at 516106 at 202030H, secured at 202400H.
6. Set condition 100% alert at 202215H and reverted to 50% at 210030H.
3. Progress slowed in bunkering OPLR, in riveting and sand bagging all positions in bunkering mortar ammo pits, and in laying protective and tactical wire and gap filling barriers due to shortages in timbers, posts, tar paper, pioneer tools, riveting materials and sandbags. Estimated date of availability of these items is unknown. Substitute materials, such as weed and bamboo stakes for drive posts to held protective wire, are being obtained as rapidly as possible with limited tools available.
