1.         Summary of Significant Events.  3d plat, Co C (rein) and Recon plat (-) landed at LZ Grouse (451051) at 280705H following 15 minute artillery prep fire.  Encountered no resistance during landing.  Subsequent opposition subsided after two air strikes.  Co C (rein) further reinforced by 1st Plat, Co B continued combat patrol into area from which opposition encountered.

2.         Operational Summary.

A.                One USMC WIA plus one hear casualty.

B.                Weapons captured: Unknown at time of report.

C.                Caves and tunnel complexes GC 450050 destroyed.

D.                Detailed Summary.

1.                  Co A, continued improving defensive positions in assigned sector.  Conducted one patrol/ambush established GC 535105, no enemy contact.  Squad size recon patrol departed 272215H, returned 280157H.  Negative results.  Squad size patrol departed 281050H.

2.                  Co B, defensive positions remain the same, continuing to consolidate and improve FEBA.  Squad size recon patrol departed 271900H, returned 200255H with negative contact.  At 280005H company alerted, helo lifted 1st plat to vicinity (451051) at 280845H.  Moved to vicinity 445056, searched village in conjunction with Recon vicinity 445054.

3.                  Co C, continued consolidation of outposts at bridge/checkpoint (497067) and Hill 69 (468068).  Company CP remains the same.  One squad continues defense of assigned sector on north end of the air field.  3d plat, Co C (rein) helo lifted to LZ Grouse (451051) at 280705H to commence combat patrol.  Destroying caves and tunnels vicinity 450050 with attached engineer team.  1st plat from Hill 69 established blocking position vicinity 461061, encountered slight oppositi0on from SE resulting in 2 VC killed.  3d plat patrol received sporadic small arms fire after landing.  Moved to vicinity 448052 in blocking position for sweep of village by 1st plat, Co B and Recon plat (-).

4.                  Co D, defensive positions along FEBA being consolidated and improved.  Enforcing restrictions on civilians entering  purchased land.  Security patrol returned 272320H, negative contact.  Squad size recon patrol departed 280755H.  Apprehended 3 women, 1 man and 2 children vicinity 522058 taken to collection point.  Returned 281100H.  No further contact.  At 281150H alerted to be prepared to constitute Regimental Reserve 290500H.

5.                  1st pat, Co B, recon (-) helo lifted from regimental LZ to LZ grouse 451051 at 280705H.  Patrolled NW to vicinity 451056 received small arms fore, 1 WIA (USMC).  Recon patrol cancelled.  Assigned mission to search village vicinity 445054 in conjunction with 1st plat, Co B.  Present location 445054.
