OPSUM #22            Period Covered 051100H to 061100H June 1965

 

1.         General Summary of Significant Events.  Engineers worked on road to base of Hill 213 at 532004 with Ontos as security.  81mm mortar platoon displaced 3 sections from LZ Hawk to LZ Robin.  One platoon (+) of Howtars attached to 1st Battalion and now located at Battalion CP.  The Battalion conducted a search and clear operation of Tri Binh (1) 555986 this AM.  Over 300 civilians taken out of village 17 were interrogated 14 sent to regimental collection point.

2.         Operation Summary.

A.                No friendly KIA’s or WIA’s.

B.                Tri Binh (1) operations has two civil affairs officers a CI Team and two Corpsman checking village for Medcap Operations scheduled at a later date.  Also taking care of minor outs and bruises.

C.                Company C found documents at Tri Binh (2) 5 June.

D.                One platoon of PATS, 2 interpreters, Police Chief and informers participated in Tri Binh (1) operation this AM nothing destroyed or burned.

E.                Company A was in defense of Obj ‘O’ and ‘P’ (GC 511994, 495005 respectfully) with one platoon on each Obj the other platoon at LZ Hawk (GC 507997).

Company B in defense of Bn CP.  Sent one platoon to be in position at 060530H Tri Binh (1).  One platoon remained at Bn CP as fast reaction force and moved to Tri Binh (1) at 060600H.

Company C lifted from 474001 to 520981 then moved to a blocking position at 554984.  Presently at this position.  To be helo lifted to Tri Binh (2) GC 520984.

Company D had one platoon on Hill 213 (532003).  Dispatched another platoon to a blocking position vicinity 551989 to arrive by 060500H.  Rough terrain and a broken leg requiring a night helo evac delayed arrival until 060800H.  One platoon at Bn CP as fast reaction force, which has at this time lifted back to Hill 213.

Recon platoon conducted a patrol to establish a blocking position vicinity 550987 by 060500H also furnished guides for Company B and D.

1st section, Co B, 3d AT Bn escorted convoy to Tri Binh (1) commencing at 060700H.

1st Plat, Co C, 3d Tk Bn supported fast reaction force which moved with tanks to Tri Binh (1) at 060600H.

Artillery and 81mm mortars supported with H&I fires during period.  No illumination expended.
