Subj:          Weekly Operations Summary (120800H to 190800H)

 

1.         Operations.

A.                General Summary of Weeks Activities.  The battalion continued consolidating and improving defensive positions, billeting areas, mess hall and sick bay in a semi permanent status.  Conducted a two company sweep of Ky Xuan Island.

B.                Summary of Activities Narrative.

1.                  Company A (rein).

a.            On 12 June, displaced from old CP area to present positions vicinity GC 519110.

b.            13 June, participated in a sweep of Ky Xuan Island.

c.            14 June, continued consolidation of defensive positions.

d.            15 June, conducted three squad size patrols.  Improved positions.

e.            16 June, conducted two squad size patrols.   Continued to improve positions.

f.              17 June, conducted one squad size patrol.  Still improving positions.

g.            18 June, conducted two squad size patrols.

2.                  Company B (rein).

a.            On 12 June, continued digging in positions in newly assigned sector.  No patrols.  No contact.

b.            13 June, participated in the two company sweep of Ky Xuan Island.  Returned and continued consolidation of defensive positions.

c.            14 June, no patrolling.   No contact.

d.            15 June, continued to improve defensive positions.

e.            16 June, two squad size patrols negative contact.

f.              17 June, continued improvement of defensive positions.  Conducted two squad size patrols.

g.            18 June, continued to improve on positions.  Conducted three squad size patrols.  No enemy contact.

3.                  Company C (rein).

a.            12 June thru 18 June, manned outpost on Hill 69 with rein squad.  Pulled back to roadblock/bridge on 18 June.  The bridge is now defended by one platoon of Company C.  The remainder of the company continued to consolidate and improve defensive positions in assigned sector of air field.

4.                  Company D (rein).

a.            12 June, continued to improve positions.  Enforced restrictions on harvesters in purchased land area.

b.            13 June, same as 12 June.

c.            14 June, same as 12 June.

d.            15 June, conducted one squad size night patrol.  One outpost during darkness.

e.            16 June, conducted one squad size night patrol.

f.              17 June, continued improving defensive positions.  Enforcing restrictions on VN personnel harvesting in purchased land.

g.            18 June, conducted two squad size daylight patrol and one night patrol.  Continued to defend assigned defensive positions including enforcement of restriction of civilian in purchased land area.

C.                Statistics.

1.                  Operations by Unit.

a.                 On 12 June, Company A moved from GC 541021 to their present location vicinity GC 528110.  They displaced after the battalion, in order to protect remnants of the battalion which did not displace on 10 June.

b.                  Operation MR. KLEEN on 13 June.  The battalion conducted a two company sweep of Ky Xuan Island resulting in apprehension of 16 VCS out of approximately 650 screened.  Company A and Company B commenced helo lift onto Southern end of island at 140745H.  Upon completion of lift, a sweep of the island commenced with Company A on left and Company B on right.  Company B was detained initially due to screening of numerous civilians.  Sweep was conducted with no enemy contact of incidents.  Upon completion of sweep helo lift commenced.  Lifts were completed at 141600H.  Operation was successful in gathering intelligence information on VC activities on the island.

1.                  Numerous civilians and fields throughout eastern sector restricts all types of firing ---------- MG’s, small arms to nil.

2.                  The working party requirements hamper all training.
