Mr. Kelly D. Matthews, 57, of
Marion, NC passed away at his home in Marion unexpectedly on February 15, 2008.
Mr. Matthews was a native of Spartanburg, SC. He was the son of the late Henry
B. “Pete” Matthews and Laura Louise Matthews of Spartanburg. He was predeceased
by his sister, Sandra Frey and his son, Jason Rogers, 33, of Tampa, Florida.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his sisters Alexann Painter and husband Ted, and
Lynette Morris, of Bloxom, Virginia; a daughter, Kimberly Matthews Camby and
husband Sean; grandchildren McKenzie and Lindsey Camby, all of Spartanburg; and
niece Sara Greer of Bloxom, Virginia. A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Matthews was proud
to have served in the U.S. Marine Corps with 1st CAG, III MAF from 19 JUL 69 to
11 MAR 70, and Co "A", 1st Bn, 4th Marines from 11 MAR 70 to 16 JUL 70. He also
served in Hawaii, California and at Paris Island, SC. There will be a small
service of remembrance at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC.
The family is at the home of his sister, Alexann Painter who may be contacted at PO Box 216, Bloxom, VA 23308. Kelly will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
