Operation Order 21-67

 

Ref:     (a)        Maps: Viet Nam, 1:50,000 AMS L7014, Sheets 6441 I and 6442 II

(b)              1st Battalion 4th Marines COI

 

1.         Situation

            a.         Enemy Forces.  See Current INTSUMS

b.                 Friendly Forces.

(1)               4th Marines continues present operations in conjunction with Operation Neosho.

(2)               1st MAW provides fixed wing and helicopter support.

(3)               3rd Bn 12th Marines provides artillery support as required.

(4)               3rd Bn 26th Marines provided security for Camp Evans and conducts aggressive small unit activities in assigned OA.

(5)               Companies B and D conducts search and destroy operations in assigned OA.

2.         Mission.  Conduct ambush patrols in assigned OA to prevent VC/NVA from interdicting National Route One.

3.         Execution

a.                 Concept of Operations.  See Operation Overlay.

b.                 Company A.

(1)               At 1730H move by truck to ARVN Compound at Phong Dien District Headquarters.

(2)               Delay at Phong Dien until after dark then move into ambush sites.

(3)               Return at first light to Camp Evans by foot march.

c.                  Battalion reserve.

(1)               Company C.

(a)      30-minute alert status commencing 121730H.

d.                 Coordinating Instructions.

(1)               Adhere strictly to the rules of engagement.

(2)               Report by fastest means available all enemy contacts.

(3)               Caution friendly troops on mines and booby traps.

(4)               Do not destroy captured food or medicine.  Report their location and await instructions.

(5)               Report POW’s and detainees to Bn CP and await instructions.

(6)               Operation terminates on order this Headquarters.

(7)               Call in Position Reps hourly.

4.         Admin and Logistics.

a.                 Prescribed Load.  As Company Commander directs.

b.                 Resupply.  Emergency resupply requests to be submitted as soon as possible.

c.                  Uniform and Equipment.  As prescribed by Company Commander.

d.                 Med Evac.  Helo evacuation in accordance with standard procedure.

e.                 Drinking Water.  Streams available in OA.  Ensure troops utilize halazone tablets.

5.         Command and Communication/Electronics

a.                 Guard 60.35 upon departure Camp Evans.

b.                 Alternate net 45.10.

c.                  Med Evac frequency 45.7
