Subj:   After Action Report of MedCap

 

1.                  The below listed After Action Report is hereby submitted.

a.                  Code Name:  N/A

b.                  Date of MedCaps:  071000H to 071330H

c.                  Location: Village of Dinh Dien Phu Thanh vicinity Coordinates YD 033450

d.                  Task Organizations

(1)               1st Platoon Co K 3rd Bn 4th Mar.

(2)               S-2 and Interpreter, 1st Bn 4th Mar.

(3)               One (1) Loud speaker PSYOP Team provided by G-5

(4)               One (1) ITT team provided by 4th Mar

(5)               One (1) Doctor and 4 Corpsmen from 1st Bn 4th Mar.

e.                  Supporting Forces:  None

f.                    Intelligence:  It was believed by intelligence sources that the people of this village were and still are under the influence of the Communist however, no hostile action was initiated against this MedCap Team.

g.                  Mission.  To administer medical attention for the inhabitants of the village.

h.                  Concept of operation:  The 1st Platoon of Co K deployed and scoured LZ vicinity coordinates 032152 at 070900H:  At 071000H the MedCap Team arrived and began the MedCap.  At 071330H the MedCap Team withdrawal was accomplished.

i.                    Execution:  At 0900H, 4 July 1969, this Battalion was instructed to initiate a MedCap program to villagers located vicinity YD 033450.  A PsyOp team and an ITT team were requested and received.  At 1000H on 7 July 1969, the MedCap was initiated and lasted until 1330H, 7 July 1969.

j.                     Results:  There were a hundred people treated for various ailments.  Thirty people were found to be suffering from ailments which required definitive medical treatment.  The 10 most seriously ill were Medevac to Dong Ha medical facilities.

k.                  Administrative Matters:  The loud speaker PsyOp team proved to be a valuable assist in announcing the MedCap and in assuring the people that they would be humanly treated and not harmed.

l.                     Commander’s Analysis:  The MedCap was successful.  Our interest in helping the indigenous population was re-affirmed.

m.                Recommendation:  It is recommended that a follow up program be established on a regular basis.  The most recent MedCap held in this village was in February 1969.

n.                  Marine Corps Matters:  None
